Lunaria Annua- Honesty
This is the title of a Blind Beginnings inspired painting. The description for this piece is written below:
This mixed medium piece features the Lunaria Annua, nicknamed "Honesty", which is a species of flowering plant native to the Balkans and southwest Asia. The leaves of this plant are distinctive in that there are six seeds embedded in each leaf. When you feel the leaf, it reminds me of braille dots. I made a replica of the Lunaria Annua plant with my own interpretation. Each leaf encompasses a braille letter and each branch encompasses a selection of leaves that spell out a word going from left to right. There is a loop at the end of each branch to indicate the starting leaf or "letter" for that word. These are words selected by Blind Beginnings youth to describe Blind Beginnings. Suffice to say, there was not enough room for all the words! The ones included in this painting are Hope, Ambition, Family, Empower, Trailblaze, Home, Independence, Love, Anchor, Resilience, Hinky and Compassion. The Lunaria Annua is depicted as growing out of a bush with an array of autumn colored leaves made with handmade paper, which hopefully has a bit more texture to resemble the veins in real leaves. At the top right hand corner, there is a butterfly made with feathers and string resting on a soft velvet textured leaf. The background of the painting is black with sparking 3D dots to resemble sparkles or first snowfall if your imagination takes you that way. Lastly, the bottom of the painting is painted brown with sand to show the earth.
