Eclipsed

It began at Cafe Néro.

Like the morning sun,

you beamed confidence.

Assured of the world,

you held no room for doubt.

Smiling,

Grinning,

Laughing,

you were loud and exuberant.

Quietly, I sat listening, taking it all in.

Noticing you ordered iced coffee, I followed suit.

Perhaps the hint was there then.

Attuned to our conversation,

I forgot the bitterness of the coffee,

the shiver from my cold drink,

the pressure to talk aloud.

We eased into natural order.

Overtime, your confidence took another form.

A forceful nature, eclipsing mine.

Overshadowed, I stay in the dark.

Gravity pulled us towards each other.

Our movements in unison.

You were the centre of my universe.

I span faster and faster.

Forgetting exhaustion,

Blurring moments,

Ignoring scars,

I lost sight of myself.

Spinning off course,

I absorbed the push and pull.

Landing in a new space,

I felt smaller but lighter.

Knowing one day I will return to my true self, a planet of unique beauty in this vast universe.
