Noticing

“Seeing comes before words.”-John Berger

In the breadth of surrounding visual stimuli, our eyes tend to focus on regularity and by that extension “common” things in favour of quick processing and comfort of the known. To truly observe perhaps, is to take notice of the overlooked, the irregular and the obscure. I spent quality time with each subject to truly observe and record its qualities of realness. Each sketch allows us to meet the subject with new eyes and to truly see without assumptions or judgements. It further embodies my own personal observation of the subject in drawing and in words. A subset of my sketches from this series are shown below. All sketches are 17.5cm by 22.5cm. For the narrative behind this series visit my "Noticing" write-up in "Behind the Lens".
